Procedures for Reporting Accidents and Incidents

Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 2013 requires that if an accident or incident happens during the work place it must be reported. This report should only be made by the employer, they can either go onto the HSE website (http://www.hse.gov.uk/riddor/report.htm) and click on the report link that is required or it can be reported by telephone to the HSE. Below is an example of the type of form that is needed to be filled in and sent to the HSE you will then receive a copy of the report.

Safety Equipment Used in a Fire

In the event of a wood fire the equipment to use would be a water fire extinguisher to put it out, according to (REF ELEVEN) “Water has a great cooling effect on the fuel’s surface and thereby reduces the pyrolysis rate of the fuel.” In the event of an oil fire the equipment to use would be a powder fire extinguisher to put it out, according to (REF ELEVEN) “Similarly to almost all extinguishing agents the powder acts as a thermal ballast making the flames too cool for the chemical reactions to continue.” In the event of an electricity fire the equipment to use would be CO2 Fire extinguisher to put it out, according to (REF ELEVEN) “Carbon dioxide extinguishers work by suffocating the fire. Carbon dioxide displaces oxygen in the air. However, once discharged, the CO2 will dissipate quickly and allow access for oxygen again, which can re-ignite the fire. IN the event of a hazardous substance fire the equipment to use would be a wet chemical fire extinguisher to put it out, according to (REF ELEVEN) “The extinguishers spray the agent out as a fine mist. The mist acts to cool the flame front, while the potassium salts saponify the surface of the burning cooking oil, producing a layer of foam over the surface.”
